Our Story

We walked around the world. Together.

It started in late 2016 as a friendly steps challenge at Intersog. The first goal was 15 million steps, all of us together. We beat it, and the challenge caught on: from 9 walkers a week to more than 20.

So we aimed higher: 45 million steps, enough to walk all the way around the Earth. By October 2017 we had passed it, with more than 58 million steps logged one week at a time. The challenge kept going, and we've walked around the Earth several times over since.

Years later, a couple of Intersog enthusiasts who never stopped counting built Gone This Far™ for distance collectors everywhere: the ones who take the long way home, sneak in one more lap, and secretly want to know if they've made it to the Moon yet. It's free, with no ads and no account. If it puts a smile on your face, you can buy us a coffee or a sandwich from inside the app. We'd greatly appreciate it.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is it really free?

Yes. Every feature is free, with no ads and no subscription. There's an optional tip jar (a coffee or a sandwich for the team) if you'd like to say thanks, and every feature stays free either way.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. Gone This Far™ reads workouts from Apple Health, so it works with anything that saves workouts there: Apple Watch, the iPhone Fitness app, and third-party apps like Strava or Garmin Connect that sync to Health.

I use two apps. Will my workouts be counted twice?

No. When the same workout is saved by more than one app, Gone This Far™ merges the copies so your totals aren't inflated, preferring the Apple Watch recording.

What data does the app read, and where does it go?

Workouts and their distance, energy, heart-rate, and elevation statistics, and from version 1.1 your daily steps, walking distance, and active calories, read only with your permission. Everything is processed on your device and nothing is uploaded. There's no account and no server. The privacy policy has the details.

How are race times worked out?

For each run that covers a race distance, the app estimates your time at exactly that distance from the run's average pace. You can make race matching stricter or more relaxed in Settings.

Can I try it without any workouts?

Yes. Tap "Explore with Sample Data" to see every feature with a realistic seven-year demo history. Your own data is never mixed in.

Something looks wrong. How do I get help?
